Since 1973, Transportation Alternatives has been New York City's most effective advocate for bicycling, walking and public transit. Here's what we're working for right now on the George Washington Bridge and Route 9W:

• Allow 24-hour bike access to the George Washington Bridge
• Design and construct a totally new South entrance ramp on the Manhattan side that can more safely and efficiently facilitate current bicycling volumes
• Re-pave and maintain the Manhattan side of the South entrance ramp and sidewalk neckdown while funds are being secured for a new ramp
• Install clear signage and markings on the pedestrian/bike path to designate clearly separate bicycle and pedestrian traffic. Alternately, designate the North path for pedestrians only and South path for bicycles only
• Allow bicycle access to both North and South paths
• Apply non-slip coating to all metal features on the pedestrian/bike path, especially the South path's metal plates (located after towers), North path steps and all metal finger joints
• Consistent and swift clearance of downed trees and other debris on River Road
• Raise funds to accelerate the repaving schedule of River Road
• Improve maintenance of road conditions along Route 9W
• Widen shoulders at key locations along Route 9W
• Improve relationships between bicyclists and local law enforcement agencies
• Strictly enforce against dangerous and aggressive driving behaviors on 9W
