2009 Car-Free Central Park Committee Kick Off MeetingAfter 100,000+ petition signatures and countless marches, rallies, studies, letters and hearings, what's left for car-free park advocates to do? How about free pizza? In an effort to energize the 2009 Car-Free Central Park Campaign, TA is reintroducing monthly meetings for interested and committed Campaign volunteers who would like to be part of the Car-Free Central Park Committee. This committee will be made up of Campaign members who have some extra time, energy and passion to help achieve specific Campaign goals and who are available for monthly meetings at TA, where pizza and beer will be provided. At our first committee meeting we will discuss goals for the coming months and strategies for achieving them. While we will continue pressing for a trial closing of the park in summer 2009 and a hearing on the City Council's Car-Free Summer bill, in the face of political realities we also believe we should focus on interim measures that the Department of Transportation could quickly take to further reduce traffic and increase safety for the park's thousands of recreational users. If you're interested in joining us, please reply to centralpark@transalt.org Start: March 3, 2009 - 5:00pm
End: March 3, 2009 - 6:30pm
