Midtown East Workshop - East Side Streets Coalition

Join us to make Midtown East streets safer!

We will review neighborhood maps showing where pedestrian and bicyclist vehicle crashes occur and their proximity to schools and senior centers, outline transportation problems and brainstorm solutions using the New York City Street Design Manual. This will inform the development of an East Side Action Plan to be launched in Fall 2010.

Whether you're new to this issue or think about this all the time, please come and share your ideas. We want to hear your thoughts on making Midtown East streets safer and more enjoyable for pedestrians, bicyclists, public transit riders and everyone using the streets and sidewalks.

RSVP, join the Coalition or learn more - http://www.transalt.org/campaigns/eastsidestreets or contact Julia, julia@transalt.org, 646-873-6026.

More about the East Side Streets Coalition:
The East Side Streets Coalition is engaging civic organizations from East Harlem to Chinatown in creating an East Side Action Plan for pedestrian and cyclist safety improvements throughout Manhattan's East Side. Between 1995 and 2005, 188 bicyclists and pedestrians were killed and 19,481 were injured as the result of vehicle crashes on the East Side. The Coalition sees streets as more than just corridors for cars. Instead streets are valuable public spaces that must be well allocated and made safe for people traveling by every means, whether foot, stroller, wheelchair, bike or bus. The overarching goal of the Coalition is to reduce pedestrian and cyclist injuries and fatalities from vehicle crashes by 50% over the next ten years.
