Winter 2002, p.5 Bike Rack - Tree Guard Unveiled
The results are in! During Bike Week 2001, Cooper Union and Trees New York sponsored a student competition to design a street tree guard that doubles as a bike rack. From among over eighty entries, Trees New York chose two winning designs by Manuel Saez and James Smith to produce and distribute. The racks will cost about $500 each. On December 12th, NYC Parks Commissioner, Henry Stern, unveiled one of the designs to much fanfare at the northwest corner of 8th St. and 3rd Ave. Take it for a test park. For more information, contact Trees New York at 212-227-1887 or treesny@treesny.com. T.A. encourages the DOT's CityRacks program to use these new designs. With multiple bike rack designs at its disposal, CityRacks could increase the number of sites that it installs bike racks. Write to: |
