The Many vs. the Few
According to the NYC
Parks Department, over 25 million people per year visit Central Park.
That’s almost 70,000 visitors per day, or about the same number of New
Yorkers who have signed the petition for a Car-Free Central Park,
75,000.
According
to the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council's latest data, 1,487
cars use the Central Park loop drive during the morning peak hour
commute, when traffic is heaviest. The 2,660 people riding in those
1,487 cars represent less than one-half of one percent of all people
commuting to Manhattan south of 60th Street during the morning peak
hour.
