New Web Site Will Expose Government Parking Cheats
By David Seifman
Transit advocates are launching a Web site where motorists can post photos and videos of government drivers abusing their parking privileges.Matthew Roth, of Transportation Alternatives, said the site, which will be up in a couple of weeks, is intended to give a voice to motorists who've been fuming for years that government employees with permits get to park for free just about anywhere they want. The info will be accessible at www.transalt.org.A study released by Transportation Alternatives in September reported that 77 percent of government workers were using their permits illegally, generally to commute to and from work. The group estimates that there are 150,000 permits in use, including 75,000 by teachers. In lower Manhattan yesterday, a sanitation worker was busted for allegedly parking his personal vehicle for two years with a forged permit. John Boha, 51, of Flushing, Queens, faces charges of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree. He could face up to seven years in prison if convicted.
