Transportation Alternatives: Public Viewing for Traffic Safety Mural

StreetsBlog | July 19, 2007

This summer, Transportation Alternatives is collaborating with Groundswell to create a mural as the centerpiece of a community traffic calming project along 3rd Avenue in Boerum Hill, Park Slope and Gowanus. This project was inspired by the tragic death of James Rice and many other children that have been injured and killed by cars. As many of you know, James was hit and killed by a Hummer on 3rd Avenue and Baltic Street on his way home from pre-school this past February. He had just turned four years old.Transportation Alternatives invites you to preview the mural design. We have a dozen young people that have been learning about the issues and creating design concepts for the mural that will be painted next month along 3rd Avenue. This Thursday evening they will be sharing the design to the community for feedback. We would be honored to have you join us! Kids and neighbors are of course welcome. When Thursday July 19th at 5:00PMWhere Groundswell Community Mural Project 339 Douglass Street (Between 3rd & 4th Avenue) Brooklyn NY 11217Cost FreeMore Info www.groundswellmural.org If you would like more information or are interested in getting involved with this project, please contact Brooke DuBose via phone: 646.873.6020 or email: ped@transalt.org.
