Bicycling should be safe, but it isn'tPaul Steely White, transportation activist, writes in his recent guest column, "Biking is fun. It's simple and safe."As a longtime bicyclist in Queens, I disagree about it being safe. Motorists in Queens completely disregard the stop signs, making biking quite risky and nerve-racking. What is needed to make it safer for the biker is for massive ticketing by the police of motorists who disobey stop signs. Until then, I advise all bicyclists to be very cautious when approaching stop signs. Happy biking!Irwin Gonshak Cyclists deserve some respectA lot of motorists don't think bicycles have a right to occupy the same road as their cars. They figure any time a bike gets into a crash with a car, it must be the cyclist's fault for being on the street in the first place.Dealing with bicycle traffic should be included in all driver education courses in New York City or anyplace else where there is a lot of bike traffic. Also, Transportation Alternatives should sponsor safe cycling courses like the ones that are required of drivers. I think it would help a lot if cyclists were taught to think about all the ways they could be injured in traffic and how to avoid those situations.Fred Abramson
