Bikers rode 12 miles for the fifth annual Bike To Shea Day on Saturday, to go to the Queens stadium to see the Mets play the Cincinnati Reds.

The bikers started at 9:45 a.m. at Underhill Avenue and Washington Avenue in Brooklyn and reached Shea Stadium at around noon -- and said biking was the best way to reach the game.

"It takes away the cost, it promotes your healthiness and well being,” said Joan Scholvin of the Department of Transportation. “It's a great way to experience getting to the stadium. You feel the wind in your hair, you see neighborhoods like you've never seen them in New York.”

Mr. Met, the baseball team's mascot, greeted the bikers once they arrived at the stadium.

“Someone from the DOT said, ‘Why not bike to see a Mets game, everyone loves the Mets.’ And what better way to get New Yorkers to come out and ride than to ride to Shea Stadium," said Paul Steely White of Transportation Alternatives.

This is the Mets' 45th and final season at Shea.

Organizers said the biking event will continue when the Mets move next year into their new stadium, Citi Field.
