The Web site streetfilms.org on Tuesday posted a video of Rep. Earl Blumenauer, a Portland Democrat and high-profile bicycle advocate, testing Manhattan's bike lanes.

In the video, Blumenauer pedals around the city with bike advocates from the New York group Transportation Alternatives.

The congressman, in a sky blue helmet, weaves through cutting cabs and other traffic while trying to navigate a standard bike lane heading uptown on 6th Avenue.

"Riding up here, even though it was a bike lane, it was pretty grim," he says.

He much preferred the trip back downtown on the separated bike line on 9th Avenue.

"It's nice to see New York coming back with a new era of cycling and pedestrian access," Blumenauer says.
