Cyclists will gather at Central Park and ride down Fifth Avenue demanding respect for cyclist and safe street for all.

Press Conference to follow steps of City Hall 1:00 PM

Chris Donohue, cyclist hit and dragged for eight blocks and students of teacher Joel Kushner, slain cyclist from Edward R. Murrow High School will share their sorrow, describe how their lives were tragically altered, but will also implore the Mayor to start protecting New Yorkers from motoring menance in the streets.

"City Hall has neglected the rights and safety of cyclists and pedestrians for too long. We are demanding that Mayor Guilani take action" declared Transportation Alternatives' Elizabeth Ernish,

Greater enforcement of current traffic laws especially the speed limit/
Endorsement of the 15 MPH speed limit and photo radar legislation
The creation of a true Share the Road campaign focusing on driver behavior

  • About 80,000 cyclists travel NYC streets everyday. They create no air pollution, no noise pollution and kill no one.
  • About 2 million automobiles travel NYC streets daily.
  • They kill 250 pedestrians and injure another 14,000 every year in NYC alone.
  • Autos also create half of the City's air pollution and enormous amounts of noise pollution.
