New Bike Racks Add Panache to NYC StreetsSubtitleCityRacks competition finalists unveiled to the public
As cosponsor of the CityRack Design Competition, Transportation Alternatives is proud to join the NYC Department of Transportation and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum to unveil the competition finalists to the public. T.A. commends the ten artists and architects whose workable, stylish designs are now on display. "Each of these designs meet the standard of being functional, while adding something eye-catching that will boost the profile of cycling," says Paul Steely White. "But for bike parking to really work well, we need quantity and quality. Bike racks should be as common in New York City as street lights." Transportation Alternatives was instrumental in bringing the current generation of theft-resistant CityRacks, known as Chicago Racks, to the NYC streetscape in 2002. Currently, there is one bike rack for every 25 cyclists in New York City. ### View this press release in PDF format
