The Biking Rules Public Service Announcement Festival kicks of at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. More than 80 artists submitted short films and images as part of T.A.'s campaign to develop new viral media that will carry the message of civic cycling to NYC's 185,000 cyclists and beyond. Transportation Alternatives will use the winning entries as part of its Biking Rules campaign, promoting them at outdoor summer movies, cultural institutions, on television and on the web.

The competition has two categories: videos and photos that encourage New Yorkers to ride bikes, as well as video and photos that convey one of the tenets of the Biking Rules "Street Code," such as yielding to pedestrians and keeping off the sidewalk.

"This crop of PSAs will make its way onto movie screens, TVs and laptops across the city, and that means thousands of New Yorkers seeing and hearing our message of civic-minded riding," says Paul Steely White, Executive Director of Transportation Alternatives.

"The Brooklyn Community Foundation's 'street code' is to encourage people to help make Brooklyn a better, stronger place. Since so much of NYC's bike renaissance and culture are fueled by Brooklyn commuters, we are particularly proud to support T.A.'s work to create a safe, bike and pedestrian friendly city," says Marilyn Gelber, President of the Brooklyn Community Foundation.

The winning submission will be announced at the event and will receive a $4,000 cash prize. In addition, Kona USA will give away two Smoke bikes to other category winners and smaller prizes will be awarded as well. The Biking Rules campaign is funded by grants from the Brooklyn Community Foundation and J.M. Kaplan Fund.
