MTA Holding the Base Transit Fare at $2.00
Transportation Alternatives commends Governor Spitzer and the MTA for keeping the base transit fare at $2.00. We are thrilled that the MTA was able to identify an additional $220 million in revenue to postpone an increase in the base transit fare. The MTA, however, is still in dire financial straits. To restore fiscal health to the MTA, stave off future fare hikes and fund much needed transit improvements and expansion, Transportation Alternatives strongly encourages the MTA, the Governor's Office and State Legislators to prioritize the adoption of sustainable transit funding strategies like congestion pricing.
