Slashes
$250 million from MTA Capital Plan and Boosts Road Spending
Giuliani intends to cut $250 million from the City's contribution to the
transit capital budget (on top of a $500 million Dinkins' cut he
previously criticized) and increase the road and bridge reconstruction
budget |

Nominates
Transit Know-Nothings To MTA Board
Reneging on his campaign promise to select transit advocates from
outside his administration, the Mayor has nominated transit know-nothings
and political underlings to 2 of his 3 MTA Board slots. The nominations
of Dep. Mayor John Dyson, and his Chief of Staff Joseph Llohta's are
being opposed by Transportation Alternatives and the Straphangers
Campaign. |

Appoints
Elliot Sander as DoT Commissioner
In what was thought to be an encouraging move, the Mayor appointed a
former transit official, Elliot Sander, as his DoT Commissioner and
nominated him to the MTA Board. Unfortunately, Commissioner Sander lacks
a strong political patron, and is straitjacketed by the Mayor's
pandering to motorists. |

Won't
Cut Fat City Car Fleet, Will Cut Jobs
Though he criticizes government waste, the Mayor seems not to mind the
26,000 municipal cars that transport bureaucrats around the City. At a
saving of $10,000 per car each year, he could save money, and help clean
the air. |

Refusing
To Take Transit Once A Month
Is taking the train or bus once a month really so hard? Think of the
benefits: good press, the common touch etc. No thanks for the bad
example of motoring everywhere. |
F (Improvement Needed)
Overall Grade
The three transportation decisions the Mayor has taken a high profile on:
pothole repair, snow removal, and cam on the Staten Island Ferry, mainly
benefit motorists. He has shown no of the importance of transit and has flat
out rejected East Ever Bridge tolls and other fees on motorists which would
help the City dose its budget deficit improve transit.
