Date: 01/22/2008 For most of us, going shopping at an upscale clothing store is not considered an emergency. Parking on the streets of New York City can be a nightmare...for most people. Apparently though, parking is no problem for fashion diva Kimora Lee Simmons. On a shopping spree at Barney's in New York City, a Cadillac Escalade owned by the star of a hit reality program shows off her lavish lifestyle. The ex-wife of music mogul Russell Simmons has no problem finding a parking space right in front of Barney's...in a no-standing zone. It helps to have an official-looking New York City government parking permit...with it you can park almost anywhere you want. The permit is prominently displayed on the dashboard. It appears to have the logo of the Department of Corrections. It says "Emergency Service" and the "Vehicle is on official business." But as far as INSIDE EDITION knows, Kimora does not work for the Department of Corrections. When asked about it, Kimora said she did not know about the permit. "Oh, I don't know, I'm not driving." Most passersby that INSIDE EDITION spoke with would agree, parking in front of Barney's would not qualify as an emergency. Kimora's vehicle is not the only one with a questionable parking permit. INSIDE EDITION found thousands of cars like hers with official-looking parking permits, parking with impunity. "This is just another example of someone taking advantage and trying to get free parking. It happens all the time, everyday. The difference is that she was caught red handed," says an official from Transportation Alternatives. But if one looks closely at Kimora's windshield...the permit may not have worked that day. Under the wiper, it appears she got a parking ticket anyway.
