Dear Mayor Bloomberg,

I am a Brooklyn resident, a cyclist and I regularly use the new Kent Avenue bike lane. My bicycle commute is considerably safer since the installation of this commonsense addition to the Brooklyn bike network. The Kent Avenue bike lane, as the precursor to a fully-formed Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway, is an important way to hold the future greenway's footprint, and protect the hundreds of cyclists who use this dangerous street every day.

Thank you for your leadership in transforming NYC's streetscape into a more livable and safe public space, with regard to the Kent Avenue bike lane, as well as to the many improvements in biking, walking and public transportation that PlaNYC continues to make possible.

Especially in North Brooklyn--the densest biking community in the City--investing in dedicated space for cycling is making a big difference in putting cycling into the reach of more and more New Yorkers. Like other NYC cyclists, I eagerly await the exciting bike lane projects in store for 2009. Thank you in advance for your continued support of bicycles as an important piece in NYC's future public transportation network. I am proud to live in a city that is encouraging the kind of increase in cycling that our city needs for our air to become cleaner and our transportation network more accessible to all kinds of street users.
