As cyclists and pedestrians who travel in North Brooklyn, we support the Department of Transportation's plans for a two-way protected bike lane on Kent Avenue in Williamsburg. This new street design, which addresses many previously-voiced community concerns, will bring this crucial transportation and public space corridor in North Brooklyn one step closer to becoming the full-blown greenway that it is destined to be, as part of a larger plan for a waterfront greenway around the entire borough to benefit cyclists and pedestrians. Two lanes of parking, one lane of traffic and a protected two way bike lane along the west side of the street will deliver safety for cyclists, safer conditions for pedestrians and ensure loading zones for local manufacturers.
