The Brooklyn Committee of Transportation Alternatives provides a way for T.A. members to get involved directly in grassroots activism. We're a dedicated group of advocates working to improve bicycling and pedestrian conditions in Brooklyn. Join the fight for better biking in Brooklyn by becoming a T.A. member today!

Brooklyn is fortunate to already have more than 100 miles of bike lanes, vast access to mass transit, and a strong base of livable streets advocates. However, none of it can be taken for granted; there are still many improvements needed borough wide. After several years of reduced activity, the Brooklyn Committee of Transportation Alternatives has been re-energized, more than doubling its membership and diving into issues big and small to create a safer environment for all street users.

Harnessing the revitalized spirit, the volunteer committee voted on key goals for 2009. Projects range from spearheading already established events such as the Tour de Brooklyn to creating entirely new ones like a Brooklyn-centric membership drive in June that will follow T.A.'s citywide May Bike Month. Other efforts include pushing for a Car Free Prospect Park, bringing new protected bike lanes to Brooklyn, working with the Department of Transportation to place bike racks in bulk across underserved community boards, and providing bike valet at the Celebrate Brooklyn summer arts series.
