Will create a trial summer closure of the Central Park and Prospect Park loop drives with the objective of creating safer, healthier and greener public spaces for New Yorkers to utilize. The trial closure will include data collection and analysis to determine possible effects on adjacent motor vehicle traffic.
Central and Prospect Parks were created as refuges from the street noise and bustle of the surrounding city. Unfortunately, the park's status as a retreat from the urban din is compromised every weekday by the presence of drivers on the loop drive, creating both health and safety hazards for the thousands of New Yorkers and tourists utilizing the park loop drives for both physical exercise and general recreation.
