Staten Island Volunteer Committee

Transportation Alternatives’ Staten Island Volunteer Committee extended T.A.’s reach across the New York Bay. Our members and involvement grow with each successive month, beginning in 2009 with a social ride to local pizzeria Lee’s Tavern, achieving smashing success with our 2010 petition to remove a restrictive fence from the South Beach Greenway, and continuing with regular meetings and a full calendar of events and outreach.

Meetings are held on the third Thursday of every month at the Everything Goes Book Café on 208 Bay St (between Victory and Hannah) at 6:30 PM. A five minute bicycle ride or 15 minute walk from the St George Ferry Terminal, it’s also accessible from the Tompkinsville train station and the S 51, 74, 76, and 78 buses.

Some of our goals and projects include:
  • Bicycle/pedestrian access on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge
  • Growing our annual Tour de Staten Island ride
  • Advocating for reconstruction of and BMX bicycle access in the Benjamin Soto Memorial Skatepark
  • Raising awareness about T.A. and local livable streets issues through outreach efforts
