Since 2001, more than 5,000 people have been killed in traffic in NYC, and motor vehicles remain a leading cause of child injury deaths. To address this epidemic, speed safety cameras have been effective - speeding violations are down 63% and injuries to people walking are down 23% at the average camera location. However, NYS law limits NYC to operate cameras at just 140 school zones, even though our city has more than 2,000 schools, leaving 93% of students without this life-saving technology.…
