Brooklyn & Manhattan City Council Candidates Discuss L Train Shutdown, Sept 6 & 7

Transportation Alternatives To Host Two Sold-Out Events In Advance of Democratic Primary

In anticipation of the 2019 shutdown of the L Train, Transportation Alternatives will host two City Council Candidate Forums designed to allow communities along the L Train corridor to hear from City Council candidates first-hand about the street design innovations and action plans they will fight for if elected to represent affected neighborhoods.

The L Train carries 300,000 people daily - the size of the entire population of Pittsburgh, PA - who will need alternative, affordable and practical commuting options. Of the 50,000 New Yorkers who use the L train within Manhattan every day, the shutdown will particularly affect those who live and work in the Financial District, the Lower East Side, Stuytown, Chelsea and the West Village. In Brooklyn, of the 250,000 New Yorkers who use the L Train every day to travel between Brooklyn and Manhattan, the effects felt in North Brooklyn will be particularly profound.
