Every New Yorker experiences the Wild West dangers of our streets firsthand. Reckless behaviors like speeding and failing to yield are commonplace, and the enforcement brought to bear by the NYPD has been unable to create a credible deterrent to traffic violations. T.A. is working to increase enforcement against reckless driving as well as expand the use of automated red light cameras and speed cameras. We are pushing the Mayor and the NYPD to develop a more scientific system for tracking and responding to traffic violations, in much the same way the NYPD has tackled street crime. On the legal front, T.A. is partnering with lawmakers to protect vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists, and increase the penalties of dangerous driving.
