Celebrating a Milestone: MTA Approves Congestion Pricing

Today marks a significant milestone for New York as the MTA board approves congestion pricing, a triumph for the countless commuters who have long advocated for substantial investments in our transit systems.

The approval of congestion pricing not only signifies a victory for New York, but also heralds a brighter future for commuters across the entire region. With this crucial step, we move closer to realizing our shared vision of a healthier, stronger, and more connected city.

Congestion pricing brings with it the promise of cleaner air, safer streets, and faster commutes — but only if we take the necessary steps to ensure the program's success.

Join us in learning more about how congestion pricing can improve your daily life. Sign our petition and make your voice heard to our elected leaders, ensuring that NYC is prepared to implement congestion pricing effectively and successfully.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

We rallied with Council Member Sandy Nurse for transit equity in East New York. Last Friday alongside dedicated community advocates, we raised our voices to support a fully connected and easily accessible Broadway Junction and East New York LIRR station. Our communities deserve real transit justice. From pressing for essential ADA upgrades to advocating for vital safety enhancements — let's ensure that the MTA prioritizes these much-needed improvements in their upcoming capital plan.

We joined Senator Ramos at the Queens Children's March for Sammy's Law.  Over 200 people, including families and community members, gathered at P.S.110 in Corona to rally and march for state legislation to strengthen traffic safety in our city. After an inspiring press conference led by Senator Ramos, we began a march that covered nearly a mile! Sammy's Law empowers NYC to set its own speed limits, saving lives. Let's stand together in solidarity, demanding safer streets for all.

In the news. Here's what we're reading this week:

  • Dan Goldman and borough presidents from Manhattan and Brooklyn call on Governor Hochul to allocate $90 million for improved bus service in NYC, reports City & State.

  • PopWheels, a company led by Baruch Herzfeld, has developed a recharging cabinet that aims to tackle the issue of e-bike-battery fires, reports Curbed.

  • DOT has revised cargo bike regulations to permit longer bike-trailer combinations, reflecting their widespread use, reports Streetsblog.

ONE ACTION TO TAKE NOW

P.S. Thanks for showing your support for congestion pricing! The MTA’s public comment period closed last week, and comments in support outnumbered opponents two to one.

We’re getting closer to its implementation, and we will continue calling on our leaders to deliver better bus service, more bike lanes, and better bus lanes to ensure the program is set up for success.
