Bicyclists Mourn Arthur Kaye, Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Sidewalk Cyclist
What: Memorial Service Bicyclists will hold a memorial for Arthur Kaye, a 67 year old businessman who died on November 18, after being struck on an Upper West Side sidewalk by a bicyclist making a delivery for a local restaurant. Cyclists will link hands and spend a moment of silence together mourning the life of a human being who should be alive today. The assembled cyclists will then sign a letter of condolence to Arthur Kaye's long-time companion which will be mailed to her. The assembled cyclists call upon all bicyclists to GIVE RESPECT to pedestrians and fellow street users and pledge to stay off of sidewalks. Additionally, cyclists are calling on food delivery bicyclists employer, Chirping Chicken, to assume responsibility for this terrible tragedy. " It is a dark day for all
New Yorkers who bicycle in New York City. We are deeply saddened by Mr. Kaye's
tragic death. We are also disturbed that the bicycle, which is a worldwide
symbol of sensible, environmentally friendly travel, is being so misused by some
in this city that it has become associated with danger and disrespect.
Transportation Alternatives and our 4,000 members urge bicyclists to GIVE
RESPECT to their fellow New Yorkers by staying off of the sidewalk and always
yielding to pedestrians." Fact Sheet Pedestrians Killed by
