Action Alert: Tell Your Assemblymember to Demand a Vote on Sammy’s Law

Right now, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie is refusing to hold a vote on Sammy’s Law. The session in Albany ends in one week and legislators are intentionally waiting out the clock — putting politics over people’s lives.

Today, legislators from cities and towns hundreds of miles away from New York City decide the speed limits on our roads. It's unsafe and it's unfair. Sammy's Law would give New Yorkers local control of our speed limit.

Can you call Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie at 518-455-3791 and your assemblymember today and demand a vote on Sammy’s Law?

Here’s a script you can use when you call:

Hello,

My name is ______, I am a volunteer with Transportation Alternatives, and I am your constituent.

I am calling the Assembly Member to support passing Sammy's Law (A.07266) before the session ends on June 8.

Sammy’s Law (A.07266) will give New York City the ability to set our own speed limits based on what is appropriate for any street in question. It’s a common sense law that will save lives.
