For School Communities

We are making strides to protect our most vulnerable New Yorkers by advocating for commutes that are safe, active, healthy, and fun for kids and youth. If you are interested in activating your school community around these issues, check out our resources below.

What We Work On

Open Streets for Schools

Car-free streets keep children safe, especially given that crashes and injuries happen at a much higher rate on streets with schools during pickup and drop-off hours. Learn how your school can apply for an Open Street for Schools and check out our video to see a School Street in action!

Traffic violence and its impact on young people

As the largest population of vulnerable street users, New York must design streets for children if we are ever going to achieve Vision Zero.

Serious Injury Dashboard: Transportation Alternatives is tracking all serious injuries reported in New York City so that you can support your calls for action with hard data. Search for your school or community to see if there are any particularly dangerous corridors near you.

100 Children: Our report and memorial on the 100 children killed in car crashes since Vision Zero began.
