Public Transit Is The Engine That Powers The NYC Economy: Statement on $4 Billion of MTA Funding in Latest Stimulus Package

Statement From Transportation Alternatives Executive Director Danny Harris on $4 Billion of MTA Funding in Latest Stimulus Package

“Public transit is the engine that powers the New York City economy, and our post-pandemic recovery depends on a fully funded MTA.

Securing $4 billion for the MTA is a significant win for bus riders, subway riders, and the region’s future. We thank Minority Leader Schumer, the New York City congressional delegation, and our fellow advocates like the Riders Alliance for all of their work in delivering this desperately-needed short-term relief.

There is still more to be done - and we stand ready to work with elected officials and partners to secure the billions more needed to #SaveTransit and fully fund the MTA. This also includes approving congestion pricing in Manhattan, and we strongly urge the incoming Biden administration to greenlight this funding measure without delay.

From Albany to City Hall and to Washington D.C., government can put us on a stronger road to recovery by supporting transportation options like subways, buses, and bikes that put everyday New Yorkers ahead of cars.”
